OFS “Finisher’s Premium” Stain Kits
Finishing Hints and Tips
For the best results do not halt staining of a door for long periods of time while in the middle of staining if necessary. This can create “overlapping” marks that can be difficult to remove.
If a darker shade of stain is required, recoating the stain can be done after the first coat of stain is completely cured.
During staining, it is easier to take stain off rather than put more stain on. Apply the stain generously and brush layers off until your desired shade of color is obtained.
In more humid climates, the stain and finish will take longer to cure than in drier climates. Do not attempt to clear coat your door before the stain’s dry time is reached.
Before staining, mask off all pieces on your door that are not going to be finished. (i.e.: window glass, hardware, door bottom seals)
The weather stripping on the frame can be easily removed and re-installed.
The polyurethane clear-coat may appear milky in color when wet. This is normal and will dry clear as it cures.
