Q) Why should I use the OFS Finisher’s Premium Stain Kits over other leading manufacturer’s stain kits?

OFS’s finishing facility has successfully finished over 5000 complete units with this system, most of which are in a demanding northeastern climate. These kits have been tested and proven to hold up in the most extreme of elements. They provide an extremely rich color to your door and are very simple to use.
Q) What kind of doors will the OFS Finisher’s Premium stain kits work with?

Q) How much material will one stain kit cover?
A) One OFS Stain Kit provides enough material to stain one door and two sidelights with a frame or one complete double door unit with a frame. The kit will also have enough stain and finish to complete any additional accessories such as molding and trim.
Q) Can wood be stained using the OFS Finishers Premium stain kits?
A) Yes. Wood can easily be stained using these kits. It is recommended that a wood conditioner is used prior to staining to ensure an even stain across the wood surface. Note: Using a wood conditioner may cause the wood to stain up lighter than normal. Therefore, a second coat of stain may be necessary to achieve your desired color.
Q) Do I have to remove the door from the hinges prior to finishing?
A) No. Removing the door from the hinges is not necessary although it is recommended so that the top and bottom edges of the door get finished to provide maximum protection from water intrusion.
Q) What if a section of the door stains too dark?
A) If a section of the door stains too dark, wipe the stain off (while still wet) using a cloth dampened with mineral spirits and let dry. Next, try lightly sanding the door using a 220 grit piece of sandpaper before reapplying the stain. Repeat this step if necessary. Do not use any sandpaper that is more course than a 220 grit.
Q) Can I put extra coats of the polyurethane clear-coat on the door?
A) Yes. Two coats of topcoat are required, although extra coats will improve the durability of your finish. Be aware that with extra coats of finish your gloss level may intensify slightly along with possible loss of profile to the doors graining system. It is also recommended to reapply a polyurethane clear coat to your door once a year to extend the life of your finished door.
